Orange liqueur
Used in 2 recipes on RecipeWiki.
Orange liqueur is a sweetened spirit flavoured with orange peel, often including bitter orange, and it ranges from clear triple sec styles to amber, brandy-based ones. It brings sweetness, a bright citrus perfume and body to sour drinks, balancing the sharpness of fresh juice. It is one of the three parts of the Margarita, with tequila and lime, and of the Sidecar, with cognac and lemon. A clear, dry style keeps a Margarita crisp, while a brandy-based one gives a rounder, richer Sidecar. Quality varies widely, and the cheapest bottles can taste syrupy and artificial, so this is worth spending a little more on. It keeps for years once opened.
